Early Years Foundation Stage
Early Years Intention Statement
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

PE and PSHE
PSHE Education Curriculum statement
The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. PE Education Curriculum statement
Nassington School believes that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s physical and emotional development and health.
A balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities aims to cater for an individual pupil’s needs and abilities. The scheme of work is based on progressive learning objectives which, combined with varied and flexible teaching styles, endeavor to provide appropriate, stimulating, challenging and enjoyable learning situations for all pupils.
The scheme aims to promote an understanding of the many benefits of exercise, through a balanced range of relevant activities. Physical Education is considered as a vehicle to facilitate access to cross- curricular themes, skills and dimensions, rather than a subject concerned exclusively with the acquisition of motor skills and techniques.
The curriculum is enriched with internal and external competitions as well as workshops to provide new opportunities to the pupils.
Art
Art
Art Intention Statement
To give pupils the widest range of opportunities to work on Expressive Arts, using a combination of standalone lessons and as part of Topic lessons to explore a range of styles, topics, artists and applications. Expressive Art days will also allow immersion for pupils to spend longer practising and developing their ideas and skills. The ultimate aim is for an enjoyable time for pupils to develop and express themselves in different ways, recognising that, for many, Expressive Arts is an escape from more ‘literacy’ based subjects, allowing pupils to develop and nurture a different but important set of skills which will foster a lifelong love of Arts and the benefits they bring.

Music
Music
Subject Intention Statement
A high-quality music curriculum will encourage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Teaching should allow pupils to develop a critical engagement with music, giving them opportunities to compose, and to listen to with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
Links to our School Vision:
Music is an unique position within the curriculum to develop ‘an understanding of the wider world´ by exploring music from around the world including different cultures, genres and musical traditions. The very nature of musical performance relies on ‘collaborative learning’ – music cannot be learnt in isolations. Music has been scientifically proven to ‘support well-being´ as it relies on working together and the simple joy of creating music is good for mental health. Music is easily accessible to all children and therefore we can allow children to ‘fulfil potential’ and ‘find talents and celebrate indivduals’, with regular performances throughout the year. The curriculum has been chosen and designed to ‘create curiosity to ignite passion’ and ‘show posisbilitites of being out of the ordinary’, through ambitious, exciting and engaging curriculum, as well as outside classroom experiences.
